Vegan hamburger

Today’s dinner: vegan hamburger.

Most vegan burgers are frozen and already cooked. They are delicious. This hamburger however was frozen but raw. It was bigger than most vegan burgers.

I cooked it the way I cook raw meat burgers, in a frying pan. I seasoned it with salt and pepper.

The burgers tasted like sausages. We didn’t have much vegetables. We had onions and tomatoes and used that. We also added ketchup, mustard and hamburger dressing to the burgers.

Prawn bomb

I don’t know why take away food tastes better than food you make. I’ve never figured out how to make pizza. I’ve made it myself but it never tastes as the ones you buy from pizza restaurants. That’s one example. I would never try to make indian food.

In Sweden sandwich cakes are one of our favourite take away food. It’s layers of bread with different fillings. The base is mayonaise and you can mix it with whatever you want. Today we had a “prawn bomb”. To no ones surprise it’s a sandwich cake filled with prawns. It’s the best take away sandwich cake.

I would never try to make a prawn bomb myself one more time because in a moment of bravery I did. It seems easy but it’s not. You think all you have to do is put mayonaise and prawns on bread. I tried to make it but it came out a mess. It became a disgusting pile of soggy bread and runny mayonaise. There were crawfish everywhere.

Pancakes

I think many think (many think) of american pancakes whenever you mention pancakes (many pancakes). The thick smaller pancake. It contains baking powder. In Sweden pancakes are crepe like flat pancakes. I like them. I’ve tried the american pancakes but I didn’t think they tasted that good. I’m used to the swedish pancake and I think that’s why I didn’t like it.

I never make swedish pancakes from a recipe because I ‘ve made them since I was very young. I know what texture the pancake batter should be. I think you would love these pancakes and I found a recipe that looked good.

This makes 8 pancakes.

3 dl wheat flour

6 dl milk

3 eggs

0,5 tsp salt

2 tbs butter (I always use more)

Melt the butter. Mix the butter and the rest of the ingredienser together.

Use a little bit of butter in the frying pan for every pancake.

Fill the whole (hot) frying pan with a thin layer of pancake batter. Flip the pancake when it sets.

Serve with jam or whatever you prefer. I serve mine with a mountain of sugar. Delicious.

Vegetarian bacon

I try to eat vegetarian food often. I try to eat vegetarian food more often than I eat meat. I don’t think meat is good for me. I feel sick both in body and mind when I eat too much meat. I would like to eat strictly vegan food but I can’t because I think plant based milk and those things are……. not tasty. I’ve tried many plant based products but I can’t drink or eat them. Vegan food is tasty like vegan sausages but not the “milk” products. 

I like the vegetarian diet better. I avoid meat but I drink milk and eat eggs. When it comes to vegetarian and vegan  food too there are many ready made alternatives to choose from. I have many vegetarian ready made things in my freezer. It’s no trouble to cook vegetarian things from scratch like tomatoe sauces but sometimes I like to make something fast.

My favorite vegetarian ready made food is soy bacon. It tastes like bacon and is delicious in pasta sauces. The texture is like a sausage, which isn’t that nice, but because I mix it in sauces I don’t think about it. I like meat bacon but because it’s meat I have tried to replace it with the vegetarian alternative.

Fish

I love fish however I don’t eat it often. You almost have to have sauce with fish. Fish itself doesn’t taste that good it’s the sauce that does everything. It’s the sauce that keeps me from making fish dinners. I don’t know how to make fish sauce. There are ready made ones but I don’t enjoy them. I’ve tried to do make sauces but didn’t succeed.

In Sweden we have fish bolls. That’s what we call them! It’s minced fish shaped into balls. I don’t know what else you could call them. Fish balls doesn’t sound better. Anyway I feel satisfied with naming them fish bolls.

Swedish fish bolls come in tins with different sauces. The sauces are delicious. I couldn’t make them better myself. I don’t know if you can get them anywhere else than here but if you can try them. Today we had fish bolls in lobster sauce. I cook them in the oven. I put them and butter in a oven safe baking dish. I like to serve oven baked potatoes with the fish. I slice the potatoes and mix them with butter, salt and pepper in a separate baking dish. I added sugar pea snaps to the fish. I cook it all in the oven. 200 C 30 minutes.

Eggs

Quick little dinner idea.

I love scrambled eggs. I make it often. My favorite scrambled eggs are mixed with tomatoes. I cut the tomatoes and fry them in butter for a while. I add the eggs and stir until it gets scrambled.

I often also serve the scrambled eggs with butter fried rye bread.

It doesn’t look tasty however it is delicious.

Bread

I know most countries have national food. Something that tells you about the “basics” in what that country prefers when it comes to food. That is often a variety of food but there usually is something that most consider the best representation for their country. In Sweden the most typical dish is  smörgåsbord or smorgasbord. A table full of lots of food. Everything from meatballs to pickled herring. We often eat this on holidays but there’s nothing stopping us from doing it whenever we want.

In Sweden we like to put our favorite smorgasbord dishes on bread. It’s a sandwich cake. It’s mayonaise filling between thin bread slices. The filling often consists of (of course) mayonaise and ham or seafood. This sandwich cake we had today was a ham cake. There were prawns as well but just on the first layer.

I have planned to make a sandwich cake but it’s a bit much to do. There are ready made bread but all the filling and layers to fill is nothing I want to do. I would have to buy more mayonaise than I ever have. I would have gone crazy making the cake.

Review of Subway and their tuna sandwich.

Almost everyone knows what Subway is. For you that don’t it’s a restaurant that focuses on sandwiches, or subs. They have a number of sandwiches to choose from. They make the sandwiches for order.

I liked their tuna sandwich. I had it when I went there yesterday. It contains of (of course) tuna and the veggies and sauce you want. I added cheese to it as well. The veggies I picked was tomatoes, salad and onions. I thought mayo would complement the tuna and it did. It was yummy.

I like that Subway has two sizes of their sandwiches. The smaller ones are often fulfilling but if you’re hungry there’s a bigger sandwich.

 

 

 

Pasta

I know I’m addicted to carbs. I get carb cravings often. I could go without most food ingredients but not carbs. Pasta is my biggest addiction. On lazy days I eat just pasta to dinner. On more normal days I make some effort. Then I put some salt and pepper on the pasta.

Today I made pasta bolognese. I feel proud I made a whole dinner for once. I find bolognese sauce with minced beef wonderful. I don’t eat meat often however minced beef is my favorite kind of meat. I fried the minced beef with onions. I added cabbage and peppers. I added the vegetables cause I wanted more substance. I know that’s not what you normally put in a bolognese but I longed for these vegetables. After a while I added tomatoes, salt, pepper, cream and milk. I served it with my favorite pasta.

The dinner suggestion of the day pasta bolognese.

Baked asparagus

I love almost all vegetables. I think the best way to cook them is in the oven. You get the unbeatable taste. I feel you keep the nutrients more than when you use the stove. I’m not one that enjoys being stressed. Oven dinners are the best cause you often only have to put everything in a tin. It cooks “itself”. The stove craves more effort.

Asparagus is a versatile vegetable. It’s easy to cook. I don’t find raw asparagus tasty but cooked it’s almost my favorite vegetable. Bacon wrapped asparagus is one of the tastiest ways to cook this ingredient. This time I didn’t boil the asparagus in advance but I should. They take time to cook and the bacon gets cooked in no time. I couldn’t leave it in the oven long because I didn’t want the bacon to get burnt. It was more than tasty but it would have tasted delicious with a pre cooked asparagus.

I wrapped the asparagus with bacon. I put them in a oven tin. I also put french fries in the oven. French fries are perfect to this. I cooked it at 190 C for 30 minutes. Try it.
