Dogcipan

In Sweden marcipan is a popular christmas candy. I made a not so good attempt at making marcipan dogs today.

I thought I did well until it was time for the chocolate. I wanted to give the dogs some personality and the chocolate would do that. I would “paint” eyes and fur on them. Haha, it ended up looking like chocolate had exploaded on the poor dogs.

The dogs were fine here.

Poor dogs.

Almond candy

I like all sorts of candy. What I don`t like is all the sugar it contains. I sometimes feel sick when I eat too much of it. That`s why I`m excited that I`ve found a recepy for a healthier candy, almond candy. I like almonds but they don`t taste much as they are. This recepy makes them tasty and there`s not much sugar involved.

You don`t have to bake the almonds for a long time in this recepy and that means you don`t remove all the nutrients from the nut. Almonds are healthy and they are filled with protein, vitamin B and E and magnesium. I know it would be better to eat them without a sugar but sugar almonds are better than no almonds.

Ingredients:

1,5 tablespoons golden syrup

1 tablespoon sugar

A pinch of salt

100 gr sweet almonds

Oven 175 C

Mix syrup, sugar and salt in a saucepan on low heat. Don`t let the mixture boil. The heat is only suppose to help in blending the ingredients. Add the almonds and coat them in the melted sugar.

Place the almonds on a baking paper. Make sure they`re not in one big lump. Spread them evenly on the paper. Put the paper on a oven tray.  Bake for 8 minutes in the middle of the oven.

Tasty!

Easy baking

I made the easiest cookies today. I had bought puff pastry because I like it and I thought I would do something with it. The one you buy is tasty and I would never do it myself. The amount of time it takes is not for someone as lazy as me. You have to roll the dough and put butter in it, let it cool and then roll it again for I don`t know how many times.

I put apple sauce and cinnamon on the puff pastry. I rolled it together and brushed beaten egg on top. I also put pearl sugar on it.

I baked it for 20 minutes at 200 C in the middle of the oven.

It was tasty!

Flap jack

I don`t know what to think about flap jacks. When I make them nothing goes as it should. This time I couldn`t cut them in pieces after they had been in the oven. They fell apart when I did. I had to put the warm mixture in cupcake papers to make some kind of cakes out of it.

Anyway they are the easiest snacks you can make. You just put the ingredients in a pan to mix them together and then it all goes in the oven in a tin.

Ingredients

150 gr butter

0,5 dl golden syrup

1 dl sugar

5 dl oatmeal

0,5 teaspoon salt

1 dl dried fruits

Oven: 175 C

Melt the butter, syrup and sugar in a pan. When it has melted add the rest of the ingredients and stir.

Put the mixture in a tin and bake for 15-20 min in the bottom half of the oven.

Cake crumbs

I felt like baking coconut cakes and I did. They were fine fresh out of the oven but when I tried to get them off the baking paper they became crumbs. It doesn`t even resemble a cake now! Haha, it`s like there`s been a cake car crash. I don`t know what I did wrong. I couldn`t take them off the baking paper right away because they were to fragile. When I did the bottom of the cake got stuck on the paper and they got ruined.

I was making dinner when I tried to take them off the paper and when it didn`t work I began eating the crumbs. I thought that because I can`t serve them I might as well eat them myself. They were tasty. I almost ate them all. I thought I would write down the recepy if anyone like to make them. I don`t know how to make them not stick.

50 gr butter

2 eggs

1,5 dl sugar

5-6 dl coconut flakes

Oven: 175 C

Melt the butter and let it cool. Whisk the eggs and sugar.

Add the butter and coconut flakes. Use a spoon and make piles of the mixture on a baking paper. I made 18 cakes.

Bake for 12 minutes in the middle of the oven.

Cupcakes

I think cupcakes are tasty. I don`t want them with frosting I want them without it. Even if frosting is fine I think it makes the cupcake only taste of the frosting and nothing else. I don`t like the big ones either. They are too big. These days many coffee houses only have the big ones and I don`t like them. It`s like eating a meal because they are huge.

I made a delicious chocolate cupcake yesterday that was the right size ( for me ). It was also nice and gooey on the inside.

100 gr butter
2 eggs
2,5 dl sugar
1,5 tea spoons vanilla sugar
A pinch of salt
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 dl wheat flour
0,5 tea spoon baking powder

Oven: 200 C

Melt the butter and let it cool. Whisk the eggs and sugar. Add all the other ingredients except the butter. Mix them together. Add the butter.

Put the mixture in cupcake papers ( or what it`s called ). Bake for 10 minutes in the middle of the oven.

Don`t bake them for more than 10 minutes. They look unfinished when you take them out and that`s what makes them gooey.

Lazy bread

I love homemade bread. I love the smell when you bake it and the taste is something else than the ones you buy. The only thing is that it’s usually time consuming. After a day at work or even on a day off you might not feel like baking for hours.

That’s why this recepy is perfect! It’s a bread for the lazy. It was easy from the beginning and I have made it even easier.

You’ll need:

75 gr yeast

50 gr butter

5 dl water

1 tbs salt

1 tbs sugar

1 tbs olive oil

12 dl wheat flour

( tbs – I mean a big spoon like the ones you eat soup with )

Put the yeast in a bowl. Melt the butter and add the water and get the mixture to 37 C.

Add the butter mixture and the rest of the ingredients to the bowl. The recepy says that you should work the dough for a couple of minutes however I don’t. I do it for 1 minute. There will be “holes” in the bread but I don’t care.

The recepy also says that you should make 20 rolls and put them on a baking tray to rise for 15 minutes. I just put the whole dough on the tray and let it rise for 15 minutes. Easy!

Bake for 7 minutes at 250 C in the middle of the oven.

When the bread has cooled cut it into squares.

Treats

Much of the dog treats available are not good. They smell bad and has additives that shouldn’t be there. Even if dogs like smelly stuff you often wonder what they put in the treats to make them smell like that. Many doesn’t smell of what they should be made of. Liver treats are one of those that smells disgusting. I don’t like liver but it doesn’t smell like that. There was another treat that smelled so bad that I had to throw it out. They often don’t even have natural flavours.

Treats often have sugar in them and that’s hard to get. Dogs don’t care about the sweetness give them real flavours instead.

I have found a treat that is natural and I will write about that another time. In the meantime I can tell you I made my own dog treats today. I just used ingredients I know are good to dogs. I didn’t think about writing down how much I used of the ingredients and I can only give you an estimate of it.

1 egg ( I’m sure of that )

1 tablespoon peanut butter

1 small piece of apple ( in small pieces and remove the peel and seeds )

2 dl oats

I mixed everything together and I tried to shape the mixture into bones. I don’t know if I succeeded. I put the “bones” in a tin and cooked them at 150 C for 20 minutes.

Kajsa loved them!

I have to say that you should only give them to your dog in moderation as they contain peanutbutter that is not exactly diet food.

Peanut choco

This is a delicious sweet. It’s a cake and candy combined. I have changed the recepy and instead of taking the amount of the butter it says I took half the amount. I used peanut butter instead of all of the butter. It tastes good!

3 dl oats

100 gr butter (or 50 gr butter and 50 gr peanut butter)

1 dl sugar

2 tsp cocoa powder

1 small spoon vanilla sugar (I don’t know what it’s called)

2 tsp cold coffee

Whisk the butter and sugar. Add the oats, peanut butter, cocoa, vanilla and coffee.

Roll into bolls and dip them in sugar or coconut pieces.

Buns

I love cinnamon buns. I love them but it takes forever to make them. You make the dough and it has to rise. Then you have to make the buns – roll out the dough, spread sugar, cinnamon and butter on it. And when you have done that you have to roll the dough so you can cut the buns. The dough must rise again. After that you have to brush the buns with egg. Puh!

Today I made a deliciously easy bun. I didn’t even have to work it with my hands. I made the dough and even though it had to rise twice it was fast. I made the dough let it raise and put it in a oven tin (or what it’s called) to rise. Then I put sugar, cinnamon and butter on it and baked it. Done!
