I know most countries have national food. Something that tells you about the “basics” in what that country prefers when it comes to food. That is often a variety of food but there usually is something that most consider the best representation for their country. In Sweden the most typical dish is smörgåsbord or smorgasbord. A table full of lots of food. Everything from meatballs to pickled herring. We often eat this on holidays but there’s nothing stopping us from doing it whenever we want.
In Sweden we like to put our favorite smorgasbord dishes on bread. It’s a sandwich cake. It’s mayonaise filling between thin bread slices. The filling often consists of (of course) mayonaise and ham or seafood. This sandwich cake we had today was a ham cake. There were prawns as well but just on the first layer.
I have planned to make a sandwich cake but it’s a bit much to do. There are ready made bread but all the filling and layers to fill is nothing I want to do. I would have to buy more mayonaise than I ever have. I would have gone crazy making the cake.
