Potatoe omelette

I love omelettes. The dinner idea of the day is potatoe omelette.

I often think a plain omelette doesn’t fill you up. Put lots of things in it and it will. This omelette has potatoes, peppers, broccoli and bacon in it. Broccoli is a healthy vegetable and I try to make something with it often. It is good in omelettes and with the salty bacon it’s delicious!

I cut the potatoe in thin slices. I fry it for a while before I put the rest of the filling ingredients in. When it has been cooked for a while I put the eggs in.

Sugar ban

It`s hard to quit sugar. It`s one of the hardest things to quit. Many call sugar a drug and it sort of is. Many doctors want for example soda drinks to carry a warning sign on them that sugar is addictive. Sugar makes us want to eat more. It upsets the mechanisms that tell us we need to stop eating.

20170403_173812I sometimes get sick of myself when I eat too much candy. I reached my lowest level of self respect, when it comes to candy, a couple of years ago. I began eating candy as part of my breakfast. I knew it was crazy but I couldn`t help it. I often eat candy and cakes, which I also eat too much of, when I`m hungry or bored. Candy makes you feel less hungry and there has been moments when I`ve eaten candy instead of food. Crazy I know.

I`ve stopped eating candy for periods of time. When I feel my sugar intake is getting out of control I have to do it. I most commonly decide to stop eating candy and things with added sugar for a week at a time. I`ve found that there are two things that makes it easier for me to do it.

The most important thing for me has been to find a substitute for the habit of eating sugar when I`m bored. Sugar free gum has helped me. I know gum isn`t healthy but it`s healthy enough for me. I chew gum when I know my candy addiction will tell me to eat candy. My biggest sugar craving comes after dinner. I turn to chewing gum.

20170403_173659 A part from chewing gum protein helps me. I eat more protein than usual when I have sugar breaks. I don`t know why it keeps me from giving in to sugar cravings. For me I have realized that the days I exercise and because of that recover with protein powder I eat less candy. When I quit sugar I eat more eggs and meat and it helps. I also try to get some protein powder, sugar free, in my diet to give me more protein.

Health

I`ve been sick the last couple of days and that got me thinking. I almost know my non functioning thyroid has something to do with the cold I`ve had. A thyroid that is “broken” makes your immune system weak. I`ve never been sick this often as I have been lately and that`s why I think it has to do with the thyroid.

It`s much more common that women suffer from thyroid malfunctions than men. That`s what got me thinking. It`s not easy being a woman. We are prone to many diseases. As a woman it`s important to do whatever you can to stay healthy. In Sweden you automatically get summoned every two years after you`ve reach a certain age to have a mammography. I always do it. It only takes a couple of minutes and it doesn`t cost much. I wouldn`t be able to forgive myself if I didn`t go and then found out I had breast cancer.

Another thing I always do, also every two years, is to go to my gynechologist and have him take smear tests of the cervix. He also summons you automatically which makes it easy. I`ve had two cervix operations to remove possible cancer. Because most changes in that area don`t show symptoms it`s hard to spot them yourself.

It`s not easy being a woman but I love it!

Now something completely different. Today is the first day in a while I`ve been able to cook. These last couple of days I`ve been to sick to do that. I`ve only made instant soups. Today I made “recovery” food. Pasta with “falukorv”. “Falukorv” means falusausage. It`s a meaty sausage. This dish gives you lots of carbs from the pasta and lots of proteins from the sausage. All the things you need to get well. I served it with melon and orange salad.

Caring

I have been sick a lot lately. Now I have a cold again. I think it`s cause my thyroid is not doing what it should. I have a thyroid that works faster than it should. It`s only a minor disfunction but even a minor one can make your body break down. I used to take medicine for it but I did the stupidest thing. I stopped taking it a long time ago. I felt the medicine didn`t do anything and I stopped. I had a very low dosage of the medicine and thought it couldn`t make any difference if I didn`t take. I was wrong.

If you suffer from a malfunctioning thyroid you should take your medicine! You often have to continue taking it for the rest of your life. The thyroid is a glance on the front side of your throat. It`s not big but it does a lot. Women are most prone to have some thyroid malfunction going on. A lot of women are affected. If there`s something wrong with your thyroid it either works too fast or too slow or has something else that`s not working right.

There are symptoms to tell if your thyroid is “broken”. The most common are:

¤Your feelings are all over the place and you get mood swings.

¤You either loose or gain weight without any reason.

¤You sweat more than you normally would.

¤Skin problems.

¤The pattern of your period changes.

¤Tiredness.

I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks and I will tell him this. My anxiety has also been high lately and this can be the reason. I wonder what he will say about me stopping to take the medicine.WIN_20160614_17_48_23_Pro

 

 

 

Moisture

I love skincare. The older I get the more I like it. I’m that old that I need moisture on my skin every day. Anti-age creams are my best friends.

I’m not faithful to one brand in the cream market but I usually switch between my favourite ones. I love to try new brands but I almost always stick to a couple I like. My favourite of them all is Helena Rubinstein. If it wasn’t that expensive I would use it all the time. Their creams are wonderful! And for you make up addicts, their mascaras are the best.

I don’t know why but a while ago I bought a couple of NUXE products. I hadn’t used any of their products for a long time but I bought them anyway. They are not that expensive and that was one of the reasons I bought them.

This cream Creme prodigieuse nuit is one of the products I bought. It’s not anti-age but for all skin types. It is very refreshing. It helps with skin that shows signs of fatigue. It did and it also helped to decrease wrinkles.

I give this cream 4/5. I would give it a 5 if it wasn’t for the strong smell of perfume. I like perfume in creams but this was a bit strong.

Soothing

I sometimes find perfect beauty products. I have tried many bad ones but when I find something that does what it should I`m happy! I`m especially happy when I find good hair care products. When it comes to hair it`s worth spending money on the products you use. I can`t use the things you buy in a grocery store on my hair. I know there`s nothing wrong with them but my scalp itches when I use them. Also my hair doesn`t feel clean after a hair wash with grocery store products. That`s just me if it works for you keep on using them!

For me it`s worth spending money on the more expensive hair care products out there. Hair salon`s have the best schampoo`s you can find. Some schampoo`s are too expensive but there are many good ones that don`t cost too much. The difference between hair salon products and the grocery store ones is that the hair salon has more “clean” products. Most of them don`t contain a lot of crazy things.

My scalp is sensitive. It itches if I don`t take care of it. These products are probably the best I`ve ever used. It`s Joico, Purifying scalp cleanse and Balancing scalp nourish. These products remove build ups and calm the scalp. They keep my scalp healthy. They are best used together.

I give Joico a rating of 4/5. It would get 5 if there were more in the bottles. Especially the conditioner. You have to apply the conditioner in all your hair (the roots too) and you finish the bottle in no time. Other than that it makes your hair feel wonderful. Clean and fresh.

 

 

 

Beauty

Kajsa me and my mom are away for a couple of days. My mom has her birthday in a while and cause of that we decided to have ourselfs a mini vacation. We will spend it in a small town and do spa treatments among other things.

I like to get away for a while and have no “must do’s”. I find that it gives my soul a break when I don’t have to do things. My anxiety gets a couple of days off and that’s better than all medicines.

Kajsa has settled in perfectly. She’s used to stay in hotels. I often begin the “hotel stay” with a walk to let her feel where she is. Dogs are wonderful in how they just like how things are20170216_140005

Yummy

This is a favourite dish of ours. I call it minced pancake. It’s pancakes filled with bolognese sauce. It’s delicious and easy to make. I buy the pancakes because it’s easier.

I make the bolognese sauce a little bit “drier” than usual otherwise it’s hard to make the dish. I cook the minced beef in a pan with onions, tomato puree, salt, pepper and a little bit of cream. To make 5 minced pancakes I use 500 g minced beef.

Fill the pancakes with the sauce and “roll” them together. Place them in a oven tin. I put tomatoes and cheese on top because that makes them taste even better.

Bake them in the oven at 200 C until the cheese melts.20170128_161014.jpg

 

Tangles

I often get tangles in my hair. Even if I use “heavy” schampoo`s and conditioners and so on they keep showing up. When I have long hair my whole hair is often one big tangle. I like having long hair but it`s almost impossible. Because of that I`ve used different hair oils to make it better.

I write hair oils and many of you probably think “oil makes my hair greasy”. My hair gets greasy as well if I use “pure” oil like olive oil. I remember when I mixed olive oil and essential oils and put it on my hair. It looked like I had never washed my hair! It only weighed my hair down and my hair looked dirty. Pure oil is excellent for deep conditioning where you leave it on your hair for a while and then wash it off. When you only want to get soft hair you should use oils especially made for your hair.

This hair oil is probably the best one I`ve used.

20170125_180706This is Marc Anthonys, “Coconut and shea butter oil”. It`s a lightweight oil that makes your hair soft without any greasy feeling. It smells discrete but nice and it melts in with your hair. It makes at my hair almost tangle free. I find that it`s best to put it on when my hair is wet.

Snack ideas

I almost never know what to eat for my evening meal. I go through all the kitchen drawers for something easy to make. I would like to make some tasty, somewhat healthty, snacks but it always ends up being some unhealthy cake on my plate.

Today I made an effort (!) and pulled out the toaster. My evening snack, thanks to the big effort, ended up being toasted rhye bread with tomatoes and cheese.

Simple and easy deliciousness.
